Contact Improvisation is a partner dance form based on the physical principles of touch, momentum, shared weight, and most quintessentially - following a shared point of contact. This dance practice explores the skills of falling, rolling, counterbalance, and responsiveness to our partners and surroundings.
This introductory workshop, suitable for first time contact dancers, will explore some of the fundamentals to get you moving. The session will conclude with an open contact jam.
Alex first discovered Contact Improv on the playa at Burning Man in 2010. Enthralled by this deeply connective movement practice, Alex has been dancing contact ever since, extensively in the Melbourne contact improv community and around Australia, including the Australian Contact Improv Convergence in 2018. Alex has explored contact dance around the world, including Spain, Argentina and Hawaii. He coordinates the Contact Improvisation Tasmania group.
