Flax Flower Weaving

Jess Patmore is a Tasmanian sculpture artist and weaver. She offers a specialised weaving workshop aimed at teaching the art and skill of weaving and includes learning the skill of woven flax flowers. This workshop is catered to suit all ages and promotes self expression in the oldest art form known to our civilisation. 

In this form of weaving, Jess teaches a selection of  five different Flax flower weavings using a full length Flax leaf for each individual flower. This weave involves no preparation of the Flax for participants as a nice introduction to weaving with natural materials. In this weaving tuition Jess explains the correct way to harvest and cut the Flax leaves from the plant and give a basic educational talk on the traditions of flax harvesting for weaving ensuring the correct ways to harvest this beautiful weaving material.
