Nicky Bomba and the Drumsquad

New songs and rhythmic explorations with a global tilt.

As an internationally recognized drummer, composer and performer, Nicky Bomba is heading back to where it all started to record his first significant drumming album. Having dedicated much of his life to the pursuit of rhythmic mother tongues and percussive dialects, he is in a much informed position to document and create an album of original songs from a master drummer’s perspective.

Due for release in August 2019, through ABC Music, the album will include original percussion soundscapes, vocal chants, musical exchanges from a focused team of multi instrumentalists and presented with a contemporary, joyous, active vibe.

NICKY BOMBA and the DRUMSQUAD promises to be a veritable rhythmic and melodic join the dots expedition with a handpicked crew of collaborators. Funky African polyrhythmic shuffles blend into Middle-Eastern Baladi’s that morph into a European Polka that dips into an Indian Tabla frenzy and one gets  the idea. Recording will take place at the award winning Freeburgh Station studio in rural Victoria with internationally renowned engineer Robin Mai.

As one of Australia's most highly respected artists, Nicky is often invited to host collaborative workshops to teach and share musical knowledge. He has been a mentor for many musicians, the executive producer on Multicultural Arts Victoria "Visible" initiative (for 6 years), involved in many Indigenous music programs and was recognised with an Australia Council Fellowship grant. Through his musical charity, Nicky has earned the Honorary International Ranger status with his work for the THIN GREEN LINE association, as well assisting with many community protests and marches.

Nicky is the classic musical explorer and eternal student. Presently exploring the steel pan and music of Polynesia, along with drumming dialects rhythms and patterns.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and maturity to any project with which he is associated.
